Swamp bald cypresses

The swamp cypress, also called bald cypress (Taxodium distichum, (L.) Rich., 1810) is a tree in the family Cupressaceae that grows in the Southeastern of the United States.
It is a water conifer typical of the swamps and wetlands that are often flooded. It has the typical root tubercles called pneumatophores emerging from the ground and having an oxygenation function, which means that they supply with oxygen the submerged parts also during the floods. It is used as ornamental tree by the ponds or along the water courses.
