Port of Fiera

The facts of the village are linked with the San Luca fair and with the river port, which the bishop of Treviso imposed the duties on.

In the 14th century the small port of call was protected by a tower built by Francesco from Carrara after the demolition of the bell tower of the Sant'Ambrogio church to reuse its materials. With a similar building on the other side of the Sile river, where today there is the hospital, it had to stop the boats that came from Venice to reconquer the mainland.
After Caporetto, the refugees escaping from the advance of the Central Powers gathered here: once arrived to Fiera, they reached the lagoon through the river and, beyond Chioggia, they spread all over the peninsula.
